"Average hotel rates in Europe have risen 5.2% in the second quarter of 2007 to an all time high. This is based on the actual prices paid by customers, not the advertised room rates. The average price paid for a room in Europe in the first half of this year was £89 per night. In the UK rates have risen 17% year on year, making it the most expensive country destination across Europe. A hotel in the UK now costs an average of £110 per night, 8% more than Switzerland, the next expensive nation.

* Fraser Suites Sydney has opened its doors. The first property in the region of the Fraser Hospitality Group, has 201 fully furnished and serviced apartments, ranging from studios to three bedrooms. Located in a 42 storey tower block in Sydney Mid town.
* Marriott International has acquired the management rights for a 184 unit, 31 storey serviced apartment block in the heart of Bangkok´s central business district. The Sathorn Vista Marriott Executive Apartments will open its doors early 2008.

Phoenix House luxury serviced apartments in London (part of the Cheval Group) is continually looking for ways to minimise the impact its operations have on the environment. To reduce transport pollution, Phoenix House is now encouraging guests to do their sightseeing by bike. Using a company called Go Pedal, Phoenix House can arrange for guests to have bicycles delivered to their stylish Fox Linton designed apartments, complete with helmets and locks.
To request a bicycle, guests should contact the 24-hour concierge at Phoenix House. Bicycles can be ordered with as little as an hour’s notice during the week and 24 hours notice at the weekend. There is no better way to see

than by bicycle. In addition to avoiding the traffic congestion whilst getting some great exercise, guests can rest assured they are travelling in the “greenest” fashion. The price of hiring a bike for a day is £32. Discounts are offered for orders of more than one bike and for longer periods.
